Things to do in London, from tonight on

London has more on in a week than most cities manage in a year, and the best of it rarely makes the big listings sites. It goes out on an Instagram story, in a group chat, on a poster by the bins. SendMeTheDrop puts it on one map, with the area, the time and how you get in. Most of it is free.

Coming up in London

Updated 6 Oct, 17:20

What counts as a drop

Anything that happens once, or not for long. A supper club in a flat in Peckham. A sample sale that's gone by Sunday afternoon. A listening party for an album that isn't out yet. A run club that ends at a bakery. A gallery opening with a DJ in the back room.

Each one says how you get in before you tap anything. Walk-in means turn up. RSVP means tell them you're coming. Guestlist means the organiser picks. Tickets means you pay, and the price you see is the price.

When to look

Tonight is for the last-minute plan: see what's on in London tonight, refreshed every hour.

The weekend fills up from Wednesday. Most things go on two to five days ahead, so Thursday is a good day to check London this weekend.

The big dates have their own pages, kept up all year: Halloween, Bonfire Night, New Year's Eve and Christmas.

Where things happen

East London still has the most, from studios in Hackney Wick to the bars along Kingsland Road and the vintage shops off Brick Lane. South London has grown fast around Peckham, Bermondsey and Clapham. Central London is where brands launch things, where most sample sales land and where Soho keeps going late. North London has Camden's music rooms.

Start with an area: Hackney, Shoreditch, Peckham, Whitechapel and Brick Lane, Soho or Bermondsey.

Sealed addresses

Some organisers keep the exact spot back until a set time, because it's a small room, someone's home, or a space that can only take so many. Until then you see the area, say Hackney Wick or Bermondsey. When the time comes, everyone on the drop gets the address on their phone.

Ticketed events are never sealed. If you're paying, you see where it is first. Secret London has more on how these work and how to stay safe at them.

Getting home

The Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights on all or part of the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines, plus the Windrush line between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate. Night buses cover the rest. Check TfL before you go, especially if a sealed address turns out to be somewhere you don't know.

Questions

What is there to do in London tonight?

The list above runs a week ahead, and London tonight narrows it to now until 4am. For the very latest, open the map. The app can also tell you when something goes on near you.

What are the best things to do in London that aren't touristy?

The one-off things. Supper clubs, gallery openings, run clubs, sample sales and small club nights happen every week and rarely make the guidebooks. They're what this map is for. Start with secret and unusual London.

Are the events free?

Most are. Walk-in, RSVP and guestlist drops are free. Ticketed ones show their price up front. See free things to do in London.

Do I need to be on Instagram to hear about things?

No. That's the point. Organisers put the drop on the map, and you get the details, the address and any changes in the app.

Is SendMeTheDrop only in London?

London has the most, but organisers can put things on anywhere in the UK, and they show up on the map wherever you are. See what's on near me.
