Covent Garden, Marylebone and Mayfair

Central London's west end is where brands launch things. A new shop opening on Seven Dials, a sample sale in a Marylebone showroom, a gallery opening on a Mayfair side street, a product drop with a queue round the block. Most of it lasts a day or a weekend. Covent Garden gets the crowds; the streets just off it get the one-off things.

The parts of it

Covent Garden and Seven Dials. The piazza and its street performers, the market halls, and the streets round Neal's Yard and Seven Dials where brands open pop-up shops and run launches. Comedy clubs and theatres all round.

Holborn and Bloomsbury. Quieter, with the British Museum, small galleries and bookshops, and event spaces that host talks and launches.

Marylebone. The high street, Marylebone Lane and the Sunday farmers' market. Showrooms here host sample sales, often for a list first.

Mayfair and St James's. Commercial galleries on Cork Street and round about, with openings most Thursday evenings, plus members' clubs and late bars.

Launches and product drops

When a brand opens something new in London, it's often here. Launch nights are usually free with an RSVP, and product drops have a queue that starts before the doors open. Both go on the map with the time and how you get in. See pop-ups in London.

Getting there

Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Holborn are on the Piccadilly line, which runs all night on Fridays and Saturdays. Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street have the Elizabeth line. Covent Garden station gets very busy at weekends; Leicester Square is a short walk and usually quicker.

Questions

What is there to do in Covent Garden?

The piazza and market, the shops round Seven Dials, comedy and theatre, and a steady run of launches and pop-ups that last a day or a weekend. The list above is what's on the map now.

When is Marylebone farmers' market?

On Sundays, in the car park on Cramer Street, just behind the high street. Check the market's own site for times.

Are Mayfair gallery openings open to the public?

Most are. Commercial galleries hold private views on weekday evenings, and most let anyone in. Some ask for an RSVP.
