Secret London, and how to get into it
The unusual side of London isn't a list of quirky museums. It's the things that only happen once and only tell you where on the day. A supper club in someone's flat, a party in a railway arch, a listening session in a shop after closing. SendMeTheDrop was built for these. Organisers seal the address, you get on the drop, and the location comes to your phone when it's time.

Where secret events get announced
Most one-off events in London are announced in four places, often all at once and usually at short notice.
- Instagram. Stories more than posts, which means if you didn't see it in the 24 hours it was up, you missed it.
- Mailing lists and group chats. Promoters, collectives and supper club hosts keep their own lists. Getting on one usually means going once.
- Club and music listings. Resident Advisor and DICE are good for club nights and gigs, less so for dinners, sales and art.
- Word of mouth. Still the biggest one, and the hardest to plan around.
How a sealed drop works
The organiser puts the drop on the map with the area, say Hackney Wick or Deptford, and a reveal time. You tap Send me the drop to get on it. At the reveal time, often the afternoon of the day, everyone on it gets the exact address on their phone.
It's only for free events. Ticketed events on SendMeTheDrop always show where they are before you pay, so nobody pays for a location they can't see.
What's usually behind one
- Supper clubs in homes and studios. See supper clubs.
- Raves and warehouse parties in spaces that only open for the night. See raves in London.
- Listening parties and launches where the brand wants the right people, not a queue round the block.
- Secret bars and speakeasy nights, where the door is the point.
- Art in odd places. One-night shows in empty shops, garages and flats.
Why organisers do it
A small room can only take so many. A home shouldn't be on the internet. An address shared too early brings a crowd the space can't handle. Sealing it means the people who said they'd come are the people who arrive. Please don't post a sealed address once you've got it.
Staying safe
- Check who's behind it. Real organisers have a history of drops on their page.
- Tell a friend where you're going once the address lands.
- Know how you're getting home before you go.
- Never pay by bank transfer for a secret event from someone you don't know.
- If it doesn't feel right when you get there, leave.
A few habits that help
- Look at the map on Thursday for the weekend. Most things go on two to five days ahead.
- Get on RSVP drops early. They fill up, and some organisers stop taking names well before the night.
- Follow organisers you liked. You'll hear about their next one first.
Unusual London, without the secret
Plenty of the city is unusual and open every day. Abandoned tube stations on guided tours, the walk along the Regent's Canal, the City's churches, the markets at dawn. For things that happen once, though, the map is where to look. See also free things to do in London.
Sealed drops coming up
Updated 6 Oct, 17:20
No sealed drops are on the public list right now. They tend to go on a few days ahead and fill fast. The map shows everything that's on, and the app tells you when one goes on near you.
Questions
What are some unusual things to do in London?
Go to something that only happens once. A supper club in a flat, a gallery opening in a garage, a party in an arch. The list above is the sealed ones coming up; the map has the rest.
How do I find secret parties in London?
Get on sealed drops on SendMeTheDrop. You see the area and the time, tap once to get on the list, and the address comes to your phone at the reveal time.
Are secret events in London legal?
Most are run properly in licensed spaces or with a temporary event notice, and the secret part is only the address. Be careful with anything that won't say who's running it.
