Club nights near you

A venue being open doesn't tell you much. The same room can be dead on a Thursday and the best party in the city on Saturday because a different promoter has it. Look for who's running the night, what they play and how long they've been going. A promoter with a few years of nights behind them is a safer bet than a venue's own house night.

• Free before a time. Many nights let people in free or cheap early. It's the best value in clubbing, if you don't mind a quiet first hour.
• Guestlist. The promoter approves names. On the map that's a guestlist drop: tap once, and you hear back in the app.
• Tickets in tiers. Prices rise as each tier sells out. Buy early if you know you're going. The price on the drop is the price you pay.
• ID. Most UK clubs ask for photo ID whatever your age. A photo of your passport usually won't do.

• Agree a meeting point and a time to leave before you go in. Phones die and signal drops.
• Know how you're getting home. Book the cab or check the night bus before the last song, not after.
• Bigger nights have welfare staff. Find out where they are when you arrive, not when you need them.
• If a night won't say who's running it or where it is, and wants money by bank transfer, give it a miss.
