Markets near you, from car boots to night markets

There are two kinds of market. The regular ones, like car boot sales, farmers' markets and Sunday flea markets, are on every week and have their own listings. The one-off ones, a makers' market in a brewery, a night market for one weekend, a record fair, a kilo sale, are harder to catch. Those are the ones that go on the SendMeTheDrop map.

Car boot sales

Car boots run mostly from spring to autumn, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, in fields, school playgrounds and car parks. A few big ones run all year on hard standing. They start early, often 6am or 7am for sellers and soon after for buyers, and the best things go in the first hour.

The regular boot sales have their own listings sites, and your council's website usually lists the local ones. They're not what SendMeTheDrop is for, because they're on every week. Bring cash, small notes and a bag.

Farmers' and food markets

Most towns have a weekly farmers' market and many cities have street food markets on Friday and Saturday nights. Again, regular and well listed. The one-off food events, a night market for a weekend, a supper club in a market hall, go on the map.

One-off markets

  • Makers' markets. Independent sellers, often in breweries, arches and church halls, for one weekend. Busiest before Christmas.
  • Vintage and kilo sales. Pay by weight, rummage hard, go early. See sample sales in London.
  • Record and print fairs. Dealers, labels and collectors, usually a Saturday or Sunday.
  • Night markets. Food, drink and a DJ, for a night or a weekend.

In London

London has the most one-off markets on the map. See markets in London for the regular ones worth knowing and the one-offs coming up.
